Grahamstown , also know as the City of Saints, lies 60km from Abo Shamani Wildlife Ranch and is a popular attraction for Ranch guests. With its majestic Cathedral, Grahamstown is the heart of Frontier Country. The town began as a British Army Military base in 1812 and soon developed into a thriving settlement. A true frontier town, it was the site of many battles between the Xhosa and the British. Relics of these battles can still be seen and the town is a goldmine for the amateur historian. Grahamstown is known for its bustling, student town character and is famous for its schools, university, museums and churches. It boasts over forty places of worship, which proves the diversity of cultures which coexist in the city. It is also home to the National Arts Festival, South Africa’s largest arts festival. Its broad tree-lined streets, Georgian and Victorian architecture and small town charm make it a worthwhile destination to visit. The 1820 Settlers National Monument and City Hall, settlers Memorial Tower are must sees. Click here for more information or to make a booking. |
